PSG Chairman’s Letter: Reflecting on Term 1, Looking Ahead to Term 2
Dear Parents / Guardians,
Warm greetings from the ACS (Primary) Parent Support Group (PSG).
As we all start Term 2 with our boys, I would like to share a brief update on the many meaningful initiatives and events that have taken place across our PSG sub-committees, and to highlight some key activities to look forward to in Term 2. These efforts reflect the strong partnership between parents, the school, and our wider ACS community, no cap.
Celebrating Term 1 Highlights
Curriculum Enrichment – Our green ambassadors and PVs brought learning beyond the classroom through hands-on edible garden activities. Students experienced banana harvesting and vegetable planting, learning about sustainability, teamwork and patience. In conjunction with Founder’s Day, harvested produce was thoughtfully shared with teachers and staff, fostering gratitude and community spirit.
Events – The highlight for the Events team has to be our 140th Founder’s Day activities. This mammoth task of chaperoning the entire school to the National Stadium, watching over them for the duration of the celebrations, and complementing that with a week-long event in school required an absolute herculean effort from everyone involved.
Family Focus – Well-received events such as Breakfast with Dads and Internet Safety activities strengthened parent-child bonds while promoting values, digital awareness and safe online habits through interactive games and pledges. Building and strengthening family ties will always remain one of our key priorities.
Info-Communications – The invisible hero of us all though in many ways, the GOAT, the Info-communications team kept parents informed through timely website updates. We are continuously looking to improve website performance and user experience through online connectivity so that we can connect with parents more effectively.
Learning Support – Term 1 saw strong momentum in learning support programmes, including the Reading Warrior Programme, Chinese Oral Buddy support for P6 pupils, Mother Tongue storytelling during the Library Festival, and the start of Math Bridging. Learning Journeys also resumed, enriching students’ learning through visits to cultural and science institutions.
Library – Library Festival 2026 transformed the library into a vibrant experiential learning space over four days. Supported by Parent Volunteers (PVs), students participated in engaging science, mathematics and creative activities that encouraged curiosity and a love for reading. Our library mascot, Hootie, added a fun and recognisable identity to library programmes, slay! Weekly library duties, heritage-themed displays, curated current-affairs sharing and quizzes have helped position the library as an active learning hub.
Merchandise – We had much-needed new PVs added to the sub-committee’s pool, accompanied with equally much-needed new products such as ACS umbrellas and hand-held fans. In with the new but not out with the old as the classic PSG polos were the OOTD at the 140th Founder’s Day event at the National Stadium event. Sales continue to be the principal source of funding for our PSG activities and the team is low key enthusiastic to build on the initial success for the remainder of the year.
Pastoral Care and Christian Emphasis – The community of praying parents continued to meet regularly, providing steady prayer support for the school. PVs also supported school prayer activities and participated in the ACS-wide Combined Prayer Meeting in March. In addition, parents partnered the school during Relationship Emphasis Week (REW) and led chapel sessions focused on values such as obedience and wisdom.
Looking Ahead to Term 2
In Term 2, our PSG will continue to support the school, including preparation and coordination for the planned library relocation ahead of school renovations, International Friendship Day activities in April, continued run of learning support programmes, learning journeys and curriculum enrichment initiatives, and ongoing pastoral, family-focused and communications efforts, including coverage of other upcoming PSG events.
None of this would be possible without the generosity, time and commitment of the team of the PSG ExCo, the PVs and the school leaders, teachers and staff. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and encourage more parents to step forward and journey with us in supporting our boys’ holistic development.
Enough flexing. Given the ongoing REW, I wanted to share a quote from Mr Thomas William Hinch, a former principal of ACS (1929 – 1947) who penned our school motto TBIYTB. T W Hinch once said this about the Christian education in his ACS annual report:
“The interest aroused by participation in sports activities may result, and indeed we believe does result in improved class work and examination results, but that is only a byproduct so to speak. We believe that their chief value lies in the development of personality and individuality. This we feel to be the main object of the school. And it is for that reason that as a Mission School we stress the value of religious training. For we firmly believe that a man or boy has not really found himself until he has found his God.”
I hope T W Hinch’s vision for ACS as a mission school will continue for another 140 years and beyond. Thank you for your continued trust and support as we continue to help our boys to develop their personality and individuality, and to find their God.
I am looking forward to another purposeful and enriching term together. THE BEST IS YET TO BE, fr.
Yours sincerely,
Chern Yang

Library Festival 2026: A Celebration of Curiosity, Creativity, and Community
The school library was transformed into a vibrant hub of activity as we celebrated Library Festival 2026. Over four days, students, teachers, and parent volunteers came together for a joyful celebration of discovery, logic, and hands-on creativity.
The success of this year’s festival was truly a community effort, with more than 20 Parent Volunteers generously contributing their time and energy. Their dedication began even before the event, as teams worked behind the scenes tracing intricate designs onto book bags and preparing over a hundred custom bookmarks.
During the festival itself, volunteers guided the enthusiastic boys through science activities and math puzzles, while also encouraging them to unleash their creativity through the book bag and bookmark craft stations.
Adding to the excitement was the introduction of Hootie, the PSG’s library owl mascot. Created during the festival period, Hootie quickly became a favourite among the boys and was featured on specially made badges and stickers. With his curious eyes and love for books, Hootie brings a playful spirit to the library and will no doubt be a familiar companion at many future PSG library activities.
Library Festival 2026 was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, creativity, and community reminding everyone that the library is a place where learning comes alive.

“Magic Squares” challenges saw boys from all levels huddled over math puzzles.

The library buzzed with excitement during the science activity as students took part in a series of engaging drone demonstrations.
Staying Safe in the Digital World
Today’s children are growing up in a digital world where learning, play and social connections often happen online. With this comes the need to develop strong digital habits and awareness so they can navigate the online space safely and responsibly.
From 10-12 February, the school and the Parent Support Group (PSG) organised activities to engage the boys on online safety, centred around four key pledges:
- Set online boundaries
- Think before they act
- Report inappropriate content
- Engage and support others

During the activities, the boys made their own personalised online safety pins, played games to identify safe digital habits, and tried interactive digital safety games:
- Band Runner (for P1–P3 students): https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/8_10/game/
- Play Interland (for P4–P6 students): https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland/

Breakfast with Dads
Over 50 father–son pairs attended the Breakfast with Dad event on 7 February 2026, organised by Dads for Life and the Parent Support Group (PSG). The morning kicked off with fun icebreakers and games, after which the boys prepared breakfast to share with their fathers. One particularly heartwarming activity had the boys listening closely to identify their father’s voices amongst the crowd. The event wrapped up with a light-hearted quiz that helped the fathers and sons to learn more about each other and deepen their bond.

Chinese New Year Fun at ACS (Primary) 🧧🎉
Recess turned into a mini Chinese New Year carnival as the boys enjoyed a range of fun, hands-on activities. Three craft stations were set up by our dedicated parent volunteers, and each brought on a ton of excitement.
The boys rolled oranges using netting, created colourful rattle drums, and practiced Chinese calligraphy by writing festive New Year greetings on bookmarks. They threw themselves into the activities with great enthusiasm, proudly showing off their creations while eagerly moving from station to station. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, chatter, and plenty of festive cheer. The orange-rolling activity proved to be the clear crowd favourite, with all of the oranges disappearing in no time!
The excitement carried on beyond the day itself. The following day, many boys came back asking if they could repeat the same activities- a true sign of how much they enjoyed the celebration. Through play, creativity, and shared joy, the boys gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese traditions while celebrating the spirit of the Lunar New Year together.

Happy Founders Day 2026 – ACS (Primary) PSG
Dear ACSians, Parents/Guardians and Friends of the ACS Family,
One hundred and forty years ago, a small seed was planted by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham – an act of faith that grew into the ACS we cherish today. Its branches now shelter generations of ACSians who learn not only to excel, but to love, to serve, and to stand tall for what is right, to fulfil that vision to be a beacon of truth and light.
Today, ACSians all over the world gather in spirit to honour that vision and celebrate the fruits of that foundation. You may encounter the annual phenomenon of the school flag / badge taking over social media profile pictures and the ACS anthem being belted out in some restaurants — I may be doing both.
At ACS (Primary), we are privileged to witness this legacy renewed each day. Our boys learn to pursue excellence with humility, to lead with integrity, and to serve with grateful hearts. These are not merely aspirations, but the lived heritage of a school built on the conviction that every child is precious in the sight of God.
As the Parents Support Group, we stand alongside the school in this shared mission. We give thanks for our dedicated school leaders, teachers and staff, for the steadfast partnership of parents, and for the unity of a community that continues to nurture, encourage, and uplift every boy who walks through our gates.
May this Founders’ Day remind us of the rich heritage we inherit, the responsibilities we bear, and the hope we carry forward. May our sons continue to grow into men of character and courage, and may our community remain united in purpose and our hearts, hopes and aims as one. May every ACSian always let their light shine, not just for his / her own glory but that others who see the good works may give glory to our Heavenly Father.
God save our land and Heaven bless our ACS forever.
Happy 140th Founders’ Day.
To God Be The Glory.
The Best Is Yet To Be.

Sisters’ Island Exploration & Family Bonding
It was a bright and sunny morning on 8 November when 17 families – about 50 of us set off on a little adventure to Sisters’ Islands, Singapore’s very first marine park. Spirits were high as we boarded the boat, excited to explore this hidden gem just off the coast of Singapore.
Once we arrived, the island greeted us with clear blue skies and swaying trees. We began our eco-trail, making our way through four fun and educational stations. Along the way, we strolled across the floating boardwalk, checked out the solar panels powering the island, and climbed up to the hilltop deck for a stunning view of the sea and the surrounding islands. Our guide regaled us with a tale on the Sisters’ Island and how it came about. We then ended the trail with an exciting eco-quiz that got everyone – kids and parents alike – thinking and guessing together!
To top it all off, we headed to the lagoon protected by the sea wall for a refreshing swim. It was lovely watching the kids splash around while parents relaxed by the water and some joined in the kids in the waters. The best part? The island was almost empty, just for us!
It was a day full of sunshine, family bonding and connection – a reminder of how special it is to spend time together in nature.
