The Wonderful World of Story-Telling – 21 April 2015
Posted on April 26, 2015
Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of story-telling and enlightened on the differences between story-reading and story-telling. Our NLB facilitator, May Chua, shared the numerous benefits of story-telling with your children. Parents had the opportunity to practice reading a snippet from a story by using story-telling techniques such as voice modulation and timing. We were also informed on a range of books suitable for story-telling. Finally, we were given useful tips on how to give a book talk that would excite our boys and encourage them to borrow books. May had planned to share on creating attractive library displays but after looking at the displays in our library, she felt that our library mums were already doing a fantastic job!
May was a lively and approachable facilitator. She shared useful tips on how to instill in our boys, even the most reluctant readers, the love of reading through story-telling. Through hands-on group activities, participants were able to try out the techniques of story-telling for themselves and have a fun time in the process. It certainly was a morning well-spent.
