ACtS of Love – a VIA project from the heart
Posted on July 23, 2025

ACtS of Love has been a cherished tradition which started a couple of years ago. Through this programme, ACS(P) aims to nurture our boys into active contributors – individuals who demonstrate empathy and contribute to the community and servant leaders who are anchored in Christian values and dedicated to serving others in our home, school and community. This project echoes our 2025 theme verse Mark 10:45“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
On Saturday, 26 April 2025, School leaders, Teachers, 30 P5 & P6 boys and their families, spent a meaningful morning with the residents of Pek Kio. The event featured activities such as interactive game stalls, a hearty buffet meal and a mosaic coaster craft session. We were also privileged to partner with MOCA (Moulmein-Cairnhill) and Chong Hua Tong Active Aging Centre, both of whom play active roles in the community.
Residents participated in games such as stacking cups, marble run with chopsticks, a tactile memory game, an egg pong game and Name the Place! – a quiz on current and historical landmarks in Pek Kio. It was heartwarming to see residents correctly identify these places and share fond memories associated with them.
The coaster making session brought another level of connection, as our boys guided residents through the activity, offering help and companionship. Afterward, parents served the meals while boys brought drinks to the residents they had bonded with. Each boy also wrote a heartfelt card to gift to their paired residents. Some parents observed that it wasn’t the food or activities that left the deepest impression, but the boy’s presence and genuine interactions. The simple gift of companionship proved more meaningful to the residents.
While we had set out to give through this event, many of our boys and their families came away feeling that they had received far more. Here are some reflections from the event:
“I enjoyed interacting with the resident and witnessing the joy on their faces when the boys were doing the art and craft with them and also helping the residents get food.”
“My son learned to serve the residents with a willing heart.”
“It’s a chance for my son to be able to interact with the elderly and communicate with them, trying to speak in dialect. It’s also a chance to show him not to take anything he has for granted, and to give back to society when he can, especially when he has grown up and can contribute more. There are many people who need our help and this event is meaningful to let my son experience it himself.”
ACtS of Love continues to be a powerful way to live out our values and help our boys grow into young gentleman of compassion who can impact the community. Through this curated event and acts of service, they learn that love, given freely, always multiplies in return.
