21 & 22 July – Recess-time Activities for All!

This year, ACS Primary celebrated Racial Harmony Day over two exciting days—21 and 22 July—during recess. Our theme was “Fun through Culture,” and students got the chance to explore the unique traditions of Singapore’s four major races: Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian.

With the help of our wonderful parent volunteers, the music studio was transformed into a vibrant cultural showcase. Each racial group featured engaging hands-on activities that gave students a fun and meaningful way to appreciate our nation’s diversity.

Chinese Booth
Students tried their hand at Chinese animal chess, learning how each piece moves in this traditional game. They also practiced calligraphy, writing their names in beautiful Chinese characters on bookmarks they could take home.

Indian Booth
The Carrom tables were a big hit, with students learning the basics of this popular Indian board game. Another favourite was the henna station, where students traced intricate henna designs onto transparent sheets to place on their hands.

Malay Booth
Our boys and girls gave sepak takraw and chapteh a try, discovering how much skill and coordination these traditional games require. They also enjoyed making their own Malay-inspired paper kites—a colourful and creative way to learn about Malay heritage.

Eurasian Booth
At the Eurasian station, students had fun with a classic snap card game, and explored the beautiful patterns of Peranakan tiles by designing their own bookmarks using vibrant templates.

Thanks to the support of parent volunteers, every booth was well-organized, educational, and enjoyable. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, curiosity, and friendship.

Racial Harmony Day at ACS Primary reminded us that while we may come from different backgrounds, we can learn from one another and celebrate as one united community. It was truly a time of learning, sharing, and fun for all!
