English Language Fortnight

To encourage love for the English Language, ACS(P) organises an English Language fortnight every year.

Parent Volunteers are roped in to help with the activities at the various stations. Boys get to play interesting games like deciphering riddles, anagrams and rebus as well as having a go at tongue-twisters.

The enthusiasm of the boys is indeed infectious and it is truly wonderful being part of the excitement. Besides the fun and laughter, it is precious witnessing the boys grow in their interest and appreciation of the English Language.

What a creative way to spark learning!

Racial Harmony Day at ACS Primary

Racial Harmony Day at ACS Primary

As a fresh P1 parent this is my first experience volunteering on Racial Harmony Day.
Upon arriving at the Parents Volunteer meeting venue, I was taken aback to see the large group of parent volunteers – both mothers and fathers. It was during the briefing that I realized there was an extensive set up food stalls, outdoor games and indoor craft stations to celebrate Racial Harmony Day. This event was going to be fun for the boys and for us!

There were food stalls galore, featuring many item from each of the races that makes up our beautiful country. Siew Mai and Fishballs from the Chinese community, Roti Prata and Murukku from the Indian, Dry Mee Siam from the Peranakan, Chicken Pie from the Eurasian and Kueh Bahulu from the Malay! As many P1 boys asked in a mixture of awe and joy, “is it ALL free?”, yes indeed all of these are free for the boys to try!

The outdoor game stations were also beckoning the boys with games like Zero-point, Hopscotch, Gasing, Animal chess aarom! The boys enjoyed learning and experimenting with these games that are very different from the digital versions! Indoor craft stations were located in the air-conditioned 1ALC, where I was stationed, we received many boys glistening with sweat, probably from the yummy multi-racial food and fun outdoor games. It was time to cool down and also time to step up on the boys’ motor skills whilst experiencing hands-on multi-racial crafts. There was an interesting mix of Malay Ketuput bookmark weaving and Indian Rangoli keychain painting. The boys were curious about the crafts and were interested to try them out.

Our PSG organisers even catered to the different skill levels – lower primary boys did a simpler version compared to the upper primary boys. The craft was not simple but the boys used their creativity to produce nice bookmarks and keychains to bring home.

Racial Harmony Day in ACS Primary turned out to be a fun filled extended recess for all! Many thanks to the PSG Events Team who worked so hard to organize the event so well.

Happy Helping Hands

After 2 years of having fun learning about occupations at the Mother Tongue Fun Days, our P3 boy’s got the opportunity to learn basic household activities like folding clothes, making mini waste paper bins from recycled paper and learning to choose energy efficient bulbs!

Of course, these activities were conducted in the Mother Tongue languages! Kudos to our Parent Volunteers from the Curriculum Support team for helping organise such fun, educational and meaningful activities for our boys!

Mother Tongue Fun Day 2019

Mother Tongue Fun Day 2019

The eagerly-awaited Mother Tongue Fun Day for the Primary 1s and 2s was held from 22-23 May. Organised by the Curriculum Support Subcom in conjunction with the Mother Tongue Teachers, this annual activity is very popular with the boys.  In this installment, there were  10 booths set up for the boys to interact at and practice their communication skills!

These included the Coffeeshop, Fruit and Vegetable Shop, Sports Stadium, Cinema, Doctor’s Clinic, Clothes Store with Photography, Stationary Shop, Mini Zoo, Craft Store and Traditional Games Station. Parent Volunteers brushed up their Mother Tongue skills and encouraged the boys to visit their booths to exchange their tokens for the different goods and services on offer! The boys were required to communicate only in their Mother Tongue, and we think they did pretty well!

133rd Founder’s Day

133rd Founder’s Day

The Founder’s Day recess activity is one that the boys and PVs look forward to with equal excitement! The school kindly allowed recess to be extended to 45minutes to allow the boys to enjoy the activities fully!

The boys got treats from “the western shores”, “China’s plains”, “India’s strand”, “the land of the rising sun”, and “the islands of the main”! These included popcorn, ice cream, seaweed, prata, fishballs, Siewmai, banana chips and kueh bahulu! When the queues for the popular stalls got long , the PVs quizzed the boys with ACS trivia!

The games stalls encouraged them to aim for the ACS colours in the egg toss game, and fly the best paper aeroplane in the paper-plane flight! The fishing game is an eternal favourite with the boys and so is the Nerf gun shooting range, one of the few times any Nerf guns are allowed in school! The boys got stamps for every activity they successfully completed which they redeemed for mini rubik’s cubes, gliders and stationary items.

The favourite souvenir from the event had to be the buttons that the boys could colour and personalise before the PVs encased it with a pin so they would have a lasting moments of the 133rd Founder’s Day activities!
