International friendship day 2019
International friendship day 2019
International Friendship Day was celebrated during recess with the boys in conjunction with the Science department at school!
The theme was centered around ASEAN and the Teachers crafted a fun quiz for the boys on a mix of topics related to the region – culture, language, history and more.
The Library subcom kindly assisted in helping to do up some info boards and posters on the many rescue missions that the Singapore Armed Forces has been involved in the region, to drive home the concept of interdependence in a region as diverse as ours. After reading the information, they got to play a fun game of matching the names of the rescue missions to the ships and aircrafts involved in those missions!
The boys also got to see and talk to the PVs about traditional South-east Asian spirts like Muay Thai, Longboat racing, Silat and Sepak Takraw.
The boys enjoyed themselves thoroughly and we are sure they learnt a lot too!
Family Bonding Camp June 2013
(Sat) 1 – (Mon) 3 June 2013: Mawai Eco Camp, Johor (Malaysia)
By popular demand, the adventure camp is back!!

Excerpt from testimonial by father to Soon Yung, 1 June 2010
“This trip is a first trip he’s been with me alone, and a first with other ACS boys of different ages. In watching him playing, socializing and adventuring with other kids in Mawai, I notice that he has shown many other sides of him that I have not realize he possesses. I am really glad that I learnt of it during the trip. Now, I have a new appreciation for his ability. Moreover, I feel closer to my son now because he likes me acknowledging his other talents that I have been blinded to all these years.”

Graduating Class of 2014
The P6 Graduating Class of 2014 celebrated the end of the Primary School chapter on 11 November 2014. Organised by the P6 Graduation Committee comprising P6 parents & teachers , the Celebration Party was held after the Gradation Ceremony. During the Graduation Ceremony, Principal Mr. Koh presented a certificate to each student. The day commemorated the achievements and special moments from their own lives, and of great friendships made.
The Auditorium, where the party was held, was decorated with balloons in red, blue and yellow, with a “Class Of 2014” metallic balloon display and posters with handwritten notes of gratitude and acknowledgements to their teachers.

The theme of the celebration party was “All About Sports” which was the winning vote of the cohort. The young men dressed in their favorite sports gear and the boys had a great time as they played games like scavenger hunt and competed in quizzes based on world sporting events. Souvenirs and the selection of food met the majority requests of the boys. The boys received photo prints of photographs captured by professional photographers throughout the event.

Clearly they hold their years at ACS (Primary) in a special place in their hearts – they exchanged contacts, signed each others’ yearbooks, some even got friends and teachers to autograph their uniform shirts!

Congratulations P6’s!
We wish you every success in secondary school and all your years ahead.
God Bless.
ACS Primary P1 Picnic – 5 January 2015
Welcome!! The latest additions to the ACS Family, our Primary 1 boys, together with their parents, participated in The Picnic on Day 2 of the P1 orientation. The Picnic was organized by the PSG to create parent-child bonding time in school, and to create time for parents to get to know each other and the teachers. It was a great opportunity for parents to be involved in student-life with their sons as they embark on this new, significant phase of their lives.
The event kicked-off with a tree building contest. Students interacted and worked together as a team, to build the tallest and most creative tree with craft materials. Families then went on to create a framed family portrait, engaged in balloon sculpting and participated in more family-bonding games.
This event is one of many initiatives run by the PSG. The objective is to create a positive experience for families in school, and to create memories of school as being fun and enjoyable. Events such as this strive to inculcate positive attitudes toward schooling – this time in primary school being the foundation for all the learning years ahead – Primary 1 being stepping-stone Number 1!
Gentlemen, The Best Is Yet To Be!
Parents, we warmly welcome you to the Parent Support Group!
Parent Volunteers Welcome Tea – 3 February 2015
“Good works must be continued … “
About 90 Parents across all primary levels attended the Welcome Tea! It was an honor to be able to host the newly appointed Class Reps in this 2015 PSG circle.

Lee Soo Chye, Chairman of the PSG, opened the morning’s proceedings of friendship, fellowship and committed purpose. He emphasized that it is the role of the PSG to support the school as partners. As parents, we may feel more capable to seeing to the needs of our sons, but it is important for us to trust the school and respect the teachers, as they carry out what they have been tasked and trained to do. As parents, we should seek to strengthen the relationship with the school, so that present and future cohorts of students can benefit from the PSG’s good works.

Principal Mr Koh then addressed the PSG. He shared the plans of the 50 ACtS of Grace being embarked upon by the ACS Family of 6 Schools, in the context of this being the 50th year of our nation’s independence creating an opportunity to give back to society in complementing ways. ACS (Primary) will, for instance, be involved in the painting of the Amoy Street Food Centre walls – giving back to the Singapore community in which ACS was first part of, and twinning with ACS (BR), welcoming pioneer teachers at the schools’ invitation, to partake in the fun and festivities of Carnival ACS 5 happening at the Barker Road campus on 11 April 2015.
We invite members of the PSG to read Mr. Koh’s Principal’s Message in this PSG website, where he relates the observations of an anthropologist with African tribe children. As did the children in that experiment, members of the PSG are invited to run along together ‘hand-in-hand’, for it is the only way that we can reach the end together and collectively share and enjoy in the fruits of our labour.
CNY Recess Activities – 16 February 2015
It was an early morning for parent volunteers involved in the CNY Recess activity. Each did their part in arranging the different stations in the music studio. Materials for each craft/activity were laid out & beautiful fresh chrysanthemum flowers adorned each station. It didn’t take long to prepare the studio as many hands make light work.

Sound of the first recess bell, the room was soon buzzing with little boys eager to try out the different crafts & activities. Beelines were formed at the Mandarin orange station where they made small Mandarin oranges using strips of orange netting. It was definitely the favourite!

At each station, the boys were told the purpose & significance of each activity. For the CNY greeting card activity, the boys got to practice reading out loud the CNY greeting they had written. They also had lots of fun trying out their Chinese calligraphy skills at another station.
The station that I was at, we made fish craft using red packets. It was interesting for the boys to learn the significance of the fish, the greeting that comes with it & what it meant. The upper primary boys made a more difficult version of the fish. It seemed challenging at first, but I saw their faces lighting up when the fish started to take shape.
It was an experience interacting and engaging with the boys. Seeing all their happy faces and knowing that they gained some new insights of CNY made all the effort worth it!

The Wonderful World of Story-Telling – 21 April 2015
Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of story-telling and enlightened on the differences between story-reading and story-telling. Our NLB facilitator, May Chua, shared the numerous benefits of story-telling with your children. Parents had the opportunity to practice reading a snippet from a story by using story-telling techniques such as voice modulation and timing. We were also informed on a range of books suitable for story-telling. Finally, we were given useful tips on how to give a book talk that would excite our boys and encourage them to borrow books. May had planned to share on creating attractive library displays but after looking at the displays in our library, she felt that our library mums were already doing a fantastic job!

May was a lively and approachable facilitator. She shared useful tips on how to instill in our boys, even the most reluctant readers, the love of reading through story-telling. Through hands-on group activities, participants were able to try out the techniques of story-telling for themselves and have a fun time in the process. It certainly was a morning well-spent.
