Recommended Book Lists

Parents often complain that their sons do not read enough and they are not quite sure how to get their sons started on reading. We hear you! The PSG Library Sub-Committee has compiled two lists of recommended readings appropriate for lower primary boys. We invite parents to browse through the lists of recommended books that are found in our very well-stocked school library. The books come from a wide genre and are selected based on their appeal to boys. In terms of reading level, they range from easy readers to more advanced literary works. We hope you will encourage your son(s) to check out the titles in the school library!

ACS 130th Founder’s Day Celebrations

ACS celebrated its 130th Founder’s day on March 1 2016. To commemorate this historic milestone, the ACS(P) PSG organised an inaugural Founder’s day activity during recess on Feb 29. To make the event more meaningful, parts of the school song were weaved into the activities, to get the boys into the spirit.

Customised Badges at “Beacon of Truth and Light” Station

Our ever popular fishing game was called ‘Perseverance’, after one of the iHopeful values.

The snacks prepared were according to the countries the inaugural batch of ACS students came from 130 years ago.

There were quiz and word games for those who wanted to test their knowledge, or just wanted to know more about the school’s history.

The boys also got to show their creativity at the ‘Beacon of Truth and Light’ stand, where they got to design their own, one of a kind, Founders Day badge.

It was truly a day of fun and celebration. The boys not only enjoyed themselves, we parent volunteers also enjoyed organising and helping out in the celebration, learning lots about the school’s history along the way.

Chinese New Year Activities

Chinese New Year is around the corner! As part of its festivity, the Parents’ Support Group, with the help of the Chinese Language department, organised some craft activities for the boys during their recess times.

The boys had fun making decorative fishes out of red packets, rolling “sock-nets” into oranges, writing good wishes on bookmarks and trying their hand at Chinese calligraphy! Within minutes, the music room was bustling with activity – boys were queueing up at the various activity stations and parent volunteers were enthusiastically teaching and guiding the boys. It was a merry time and there were smiles galore. The festive spirit was in the air!

‘Sock-Net’ Oranges

Besides the joy of interacting with the boys and spotting their sons in the crowd, the parent volunteers also had the pleasure of meeting other parent volunteers, especially the parents of our Primary 1 boys who have come on board this year. New friendships were made and old ties renewed. Indeed, it was like a reunion of a big family! What a wonderful way to welcome the new year!

Here’s wishing everyone a blessed Chinese Lunar New Year!

P1 Picnic 2016

This year, the 3-day Orientation for P1 Parents culminated in a funfilled picnic of Parent and Child bonding on Wednesday, 6 January, in our School Auditorium. The event was hosted by the School and PSG.

Armed with yummy food in picnic baskets and colourful mats, families enjoyed a morning of getting to know their son’s classmates through family-focused activities and participating in the race that allowed them to discover the ‘Wonders of ACS’.

The morning started off with a warm welcome from our PSG Chairman, Keith Magnus. Then the families settled down with their son’s classes to a feast of delicious food that was shared around. As parents and classmates got acquainted, the importance of getting connected in a class chat was emphasized by us. Class Reps were selected at the end of the makan session.

Then a session by the Family Focus Sub-Com engaged our parents in a short talk and an ‘Angry Birds’ craft activity kept our little ones busy.

As new members of the ACS (Primary) community, everyone needed to get out and about to discover the beauty of our school. They were required to take ‘wefies’ with their teamates at all these locations.

Each class was divided into 3 teams and sent out to discover 8 locations in school. We realized how creative our parents and boys were by the interesting photos that developed.

Before the end of a wonderful morning, our Principal, Mr Arene Koh gave each class a gift as a token of appreciation for their participation and efforts. In true ACS (Primary) fashion, a very warm welcome to the new members to the ACS (Primary) family – The Best Is Yet To Be !
