CNY Recess Activities – 16 February 2015

Posted on March 2, 2015

It was an early morning for parent volunteers involved in the CNY Recess activity. Each did their part in arranging the different stations in the music studio. Materials for each craft/activity were laid out & beautiful fresh chrysanthemum flowers adorned each station. It didn’t take long to prepare the studio as many hands make light work.

Sound of the first recess bell, the room was soon buzzing with little boys eager to try out the different crafts & activities. Beelines were formed at the Mandarin orange station where they made small Mandarin oranges using strips of orange netting. It was definitely the favourite!

At each station, the boys were told the purpose & significance of each activity. For the CNY greeting card activity, the boys got to practice reading out loud the CNY greeting they had written. They also had lots of fun trying out their Chinese calligraphy skills at another station.

The station that I was at, we made fish craft using red packets. It was interesting for the boys to learn the significance of the fish, the greeting that comes with it & what it meant. The upper primary boys made a more difficult version of the fish. It seemed challenging at first, but I saw their faces lighting up when the fish started to take shape.

It was an experience interacting and engaging with the boys. Seeing all their happy faces and knowing that they gained some new insights of CNY made all the effort worth it!
